Biography

The Instructor:  Who Is He?

One of Boston’s Finest Steppers, A.W. Taqwa, “Step Bro. Taqwa,” Is one of Boston’s most sought after instructors.  Step Bro. Taqwa has been steppin since 2006 and with his natural talent and masterful skills, he has evolved to  instructor after just one year, and has groomed from his tutelage, other instructors branded by his smooth and colorful style. Step Bro. Taqwa is known for his ability to teach dance and lead all parts of True Chicago Style Stepping, as well as his patience and passion as a truly nurturing instructor. Taqwa has been groomed in part by such iconic Master Steppers as Mr. L.C. Henderson who is the architect of the eight count method of teaching and Mr. Andre Blackwell who is the choreographer of the Step In the Name Of Love, and Happy People videos for the famed R. Kelly, just to name a couple.

WHAT DOES HE DO?

His love for the dance and his vision to see everyone embrace the culture and the dance of True Chicago Style Steppin inspired Step Bro. Taqwa to develop a progressive program of True Chicago Style Steppin to individuals of all skill levels.  Providing solid fundamentals of True Chicago Steppin, Taqwa offers private and group workshops for a range of community businesses including but not limited to corporations, colleges and schools, both private and public.  His classes are primarily held in the greater Boston area.   Taqwa also offers the entertainment of his elite students; "The True Chi-Stepper Demo Dance Troop," for special occasions such as weddings, family reunions and full blown stage shows.

THE JOURNEY

In 2007 Taqwa’s first instructor made a statement before leaving Boston, that Steppin would not survive in Boston. Taqwa responded, “if I have anything to say about it, there will be Steppin In The Bean.” Taqwa, out of this passion, founded Steppin In The Bean Foundation Inc., to proliferate Chicago Steppin through exhibits, performances, lectures, seminars, workshops, publications, community development, youth empowerment, and any other appropriate means of educating and raising awareness to true Chicago Steppin in Greater Boston. He is passionate about teaching, exemplifying patience to train any race, gender, age, even people who learn differently, such as individuals suffering from dyslexia.
